A Sweet And Strong

Chick comes up, bar is super-packed. She says, I don’t know what I want. I want something sweet and strong.

In my ten years of bartending, that request always boggles my mind. NOTHING EXISTS THAT IS BOTH SWEET AND STRONG. The only thing for a shot I can think of is Limoncello. Everclear, lemons, sugar, and some other stuff. But Limoncello is an acquired taste.

I ask my fellow bartender, what do you make when someone asks for something sweet and strong? I don’t, he says, I just go onto the next person.

That’s one way to do it.

I just grab a bunch of puckers, pour em in, with a couple splashes of OJ. Strong? Not so much. She tastes it. Ohhh, she says. That’s really good. What is it?  Oh that?  It’s called A Sweet And Strong. Made it up myself (just 20 seconds ago). You like it? Yeah, she says.

It’s good.

From my heart to yours,

Clint Curtis. Bartender.
