I love having other people do my work. I love delegating. It’d be cool someday to be a manager, so I could delegate all over the place. It’s not that I’m lazy. When I find something I like to do, I do it with complete focus, attention, and passion. It’s just the other stuff. Yard work, for example, that I loath. And also, like tonight, sweeping up confetti.
One of the promoters of the show tonight, comes up to me and says, I’ve got to run something by you. The band wants to use fake blood, etcetera. I say, I have no problem with all that, as long as you take care of it, and clean it up.
At the end of the show, as the bands are loading out, the promoter says, is there anything I can do for you, Clint? Well…how’s the stage look? He says, we got the blood, but there’s confetti all over it. Great. No problem. I hand him a dust pan and a broom. Have at it.
Ten minutes later, I see one of his helpers bring up the broom and dust pan. She dumps it in the trash. Get it all? I ask. She says, yeah. Pretty much.
She leaves, I go look at the stage. Confetti all over the place. If you want something done right…you know the rest.
I start sweeping it into piles. A band member approaches me and says, can I help you out with that? I say, did you have anything to do with it? He says, kinda. They shot it off while we were playing.
I think for a second, hand him the broom, the dust pan, and say,
Have at it.
From my heart to yours,
Clint Curtis. Bartender.
