A Positive Show Review

On Friday, a band called Brazilian 2wins played, and they were phenomenal. I caught myself at times smiling. CAN YOU IMAGINE IT? Yeah. SMILING. There were a number of reasons they were so good, and I’m going to tell you.

They had so much fun on stage. It was not “cool music.”  The singer had a smile on his face, they danced around, it was so POSITIVE. And that’s refreshing. These guys got up on stage to entertain. And to make you dance. Hell, I was even dancing! They played a few of their own original songs, then they sprinkled in some amazing covers. ABC by The Jackson 5. ABC…it’s easy as 1,2,3. Then, onto Rapper’s Delight. That bass line kills it. A hip hop, a hip hop hippity to the hip hop hop. Then, onto a Red Hot Chili Peppers cover. A funked up version of Under The Bridge. I don’t ever want to feeeeel, like I did that day. And then, in my opinion, they crushed it with a cover of Louis Armstrong’s What A Wonderful World. Holy Yesus. A LOUIS ARMSTRONG COVER. That’s a damn first at the Mews, I guarantee it. And by the end, they had the whole house singing along. And I said to myself…what a wonderful world.

And what an interesting line-up. The singer plays an electric violin, and he OWNS IT. Hell yeah, the guy can play. I was in awe. I’ve never heard someone play the violin like that. He made the violin almost cool.

To his right, his twin brother played a cross between a guitar and a ukulele. I have no idea what it’s called. A ukutar?  A guitarulele?  Maybe the latter, that sounds good. But it sounded strong, and more than filled up the musical space it needed to. The bass player was amazing. The guy kicked ass on all the covers, sounding just as good as the recordings do. And the drummer was tight and solid, drilling the audience with an infectious beat. I can’t believe I’m even saying THIS, but come 1:50am, the band was still playing, I threw up my hands, said what the hell, I’ll hear another song.

I texted my boss Amedeo Rossi. If you’re not familiar with who he is, he’s the front man for the popular music festival 80/35. I text him during the show:

Brazilian 2wins next 80/35.

    seriously Clint?
They were extremely entertaining, and musically talented, but 80/35?
Not the main stage anyway. They didn’t even know all the lyrics, and could they transfer their personal antics to a larger venue?
But it was a fun show !
We all have opinions and the audience responded positively !

I know this. The only way to see our big stage package is to put us on it; we individually prepare each show: this show we “stepped off the stage” to reach every audience member; the ones who don’t smile, don’t dance, and don’t sing; so we smile, we dance, and we make them sing.
To sum up my thought, I don’t see it that we don’t know our material because of the aforementioned.
I appreciate your support, David, your opinion as well; as you do mine.
